Groundhog Day: Massachusetts state groundhog predicts an early spring, disagreeing with Punxsutawney Phil

The Massachusetts state groundhog made her own weather prediction for the next few weeks on Tuesday.

Ms. G, located at the Mass Audubon Drumlin Farm in Lincoln, Massachusetts, did not see her shadow Tuesday morning, meaning she predicted an early spring.

She has been predicting the weather forecast for 14 years, according to the Facebook Live, and she is said to have seen her shadow eight of the previous 13 times.

Just a reminder that if the groundhog sees their shadow that is said to mean six more weeks of winter. No shadow is said to mean spring is on its way.

The event was shown through Facebook Live, as a safe and fun way for fans to watch during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Ms. G learned how to use Facebook and is making her first virtual Groundhog Day debut this year,” the Facebook event stated.

Many of the viewers got to chime in in the comments section of the Facebook Live to vote for if they thought she saw her shadow or not. Many said, “No shadow” — and the groundhog agreed.

In Pennsylvania, Punxsutawney Phil disagreed, however.

Members of Phil’s “inner circle” said he did see his shadow, and that brings another six weeks of winter.

Phil has predicted longer winters more than 100 times according to records dating back to the late 1800s, the Associated Press reported. His 2020 forecast called for an early spring.

Last year, Ms. G did not see her shadow, meaning she also predicted that Spring would come early.
