Grizzlies star Desmond Bane’s savage response to Karl-Anthony Towns’ ‘We in Minnesota’ comment

As the Minnesota Timberwolves built their first of multiple seemingly insurmountable leads over the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday night, a buoyant Karl-Anthony Towns relayed a pre-game message to teammate Greg Monroe on the bench.

“We in Minnesota now,” he said, mic’d up for the broadcast. “Like I said to the media, I was like, ‘Alright, cool, we gotta come back to our house now. I’ve only seen them at their house.’”

Towns was feeling a much different way at the final buzzer, though, as the Grizzlies celebrated a 104-95 victory in front of a defeated Target Center crowd. The visitors overcame separate deficits of 26 and 25 points in the second and third quarters, respectively, completely taking over late as Towns fought foul trouble again and the ‘Wolves looked like a deer in the headlights.

One of the most improbable victories in playoff history gives Memphis a 2-1 lead in the teams’ first-round series, plus some palpable momentum heading into Saturday’s Game 4—and the Grizzlies are clearly feeding off it.

During an appearance on ESPN’s NBA Today, Desmond Bane was asked his response to Towns’ mid-game quip by host Malika Andrews.

Typical Memphis.

Bane was pivotal in the Grizzlies’ win, scoring a game-high 26 points and hitting seven triples. Towns, meanwhile, added to his personal postseason struggles, finishing with more head-scratching fouls than field goal attempts.

Game 4 tips off from Minneapolis at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Buckle up.
