Green Bay ‘Jeopardy!’ champ Ben Chan wins his fifth game and talk turns to St. Norbert College and … Tattoos by Rick?

Ben Chan, an assistant professor of philosophy at St. Norbert College in De Pere, has five wins on “Jeopardy!” to date.

Not only did current “Jeopardy!” champ Ben Chan handily win his fifth game on Tuesday, but he mentioned St. Norbert College, correctly answered a clue about the University of Wisconsin and referenced the best-known tattoo artist in all of Green Bay.

How’s that for a win-win?

Chan, the St. Norbert philosophy professor from Green Bay, brought his five-day total to an even $157,000 after winning $27,999 by defeating Lydia-Claire Kerrigan, a web development team lead from Tennessee, and Tom Winiarski, a media strategist from New York.

That hefty $60,000 amount he won Monday upon his return? Host Mayim Bialik told viewers that was the second-highest one-day amount of the season.

He steered clear of the Pop Metal Bands category, got two of the Daily Doubles and was the only contestant to correctly answer Final Jeopardy!

After answering a clue the night before in which the answer was Milwaukee, Wisconsin popped up again on the board on Tuesday, this time under the College: The Drop/Add Period.

The clue: “Dropping ‘-Green Bay’ or ‘-Superior’ Leaves This State School.” “What is the University of Wisconsin?” Chan said, excited to say it.

He seldom disappoints during the contestant chat, always offering something interesting about himself. Bialik wanted to know more about Chan getting tattooed in front of live audience. It happened at St. Norbert College when his colleagues in the art department did a retrospective of the first licensed tattoo artist in Green Bay who has been tattooing for 60 years. As part of the exhibit, Chan got tattooed in the art gallery with an audience.

He didn’t mention the tattoo artist by name, but it is, of course, Rick Harnowski of Tattoos by Rick, a Green Bay institution for more than 40 years and the man who has inked countless Green Bay Packers players. Harnowski marked 50 years of tattooing in 2018 with “Rick Harnowski: The Needle Has Moved” at the Bush Art Center on the St. Norbert campus in De Pere.

You’re probably wondering what kind of tattoo Chan got during the exhibit. “An earthly box dreaming of being a perfect platonic cube,” he said.

“Of course,” Bialik said. “What else would you have tattooed?”
