‘Good Times’ kick off at this small town festival

Good Saturday #GoodSaturday

Goodrich, MI – The ‘Good Times’ began in Goodrich on Friday, Aug. 4, as it kicked off the weekend’s festivities with a hoedown.

Community members two-stepped and shuffled to the John Vance Band, the opening act of the Good Times in Goodrich Festival, dubbed “the biggest small festival nobody’s heard of.”

“This is our second year having the Hoedown in G Town,” said Stephanie Green, director of social media and marketing. “We have a great lineup of bands; these are all local bands from surrounding communities.”

Green is one of six members on the board for ‘Good Times’ that all work on a volunteer basis.

Each year they raise thousands of dollars to put back into the community through scholarships and donations.

“We love our community and I think people sense that,” Green said.

The festival will return Saturday for a full day of events planned at Goodrich Commons Park starting at 10 a.m. with the Cruise-to-Goodrich car and truck show.

“We’re in the top five mid-Michigan car shows,” Green said. “Last year we had over 375, this year we are hoping to break 400.”

Food, music and games will fill the park all day Saturday, with a kids zone, petting zoo, face paint and inflatables. Children can gain access to the events with a $5 day pass.

There is a cornhole tournament starting at 1:30 p.m. with a whopping $1,000 prize. There is a $60 registration fee for competitive teams and $40 for social players.

The festival closes Saturday night with a “Back to the 80s” themed party for 18+ attendees. Music starts at 7 p.m. at Martian’s Garden, featuring The Square Pegz and special guest Riot Enterprise.

Tickets to the party are $10 and can be purchased online or at the gate. Food will also be for sale during the party.
