Gogglebox’s Pete McGarry has died at the age of 71 after a short illness.
The fan favourite, who who fostered over 100 children with his wife, passed away with his family by his side.
A statement shared on behalf of his wife Lina and their son George Gilbey, clarified that his death was not related to Covid-19.
It read: “We are deeply saddened to announce that Gogglebox star Pete McGarry passed away at the age of 71 this weekend with his family by his side after a short illness.”
The statement went on: “Pete will be dearly missed by the entire Gogglebox family, cast and crew. Our thoughts are with Linda, their children and grandchildren.

“Since 2000, Pete and Linda have fostered over 100 children and he is a beloved father, husband and grandfather. The family have asked for privacy at this sad time.”
Pete, his wife and their son joined the Channel 4 programme back in 2013 for its second series, but left shortly after when George appeared on Celebrity Big Brother.
They returned just three years later and have continued to appear as regulars.

Fans of the programme were quick to take to Twitter and offer their condolences as one person wrote: “RIP Pete Mcgarry, thinking of @georgegilbey and Linda”.
“Aww one of your Gogglebox family has sadly passed away Pete McGarry RIP,” another said with a crying emoji.
While a third added: “Very sad to hear that Pete McGarry from #Gogglebox has died aged 71 after a short illness. Sending my warmest thoughts to his family at this tragic time,” alongside a broken heart emoji and a crying emoji.

Linda and Pete fostered many children over the years.
Speaking about their journey to the Daily Star, Linda previously said: “I always say all you need to be a foster parent is a spare room, a sense of humour and a good heart.
“I’ve just brought them up as my own. On Mother’s Day I get so many phone calls. They don’t forget you. A lot still regard me and Pete as their parents.”
