Goal king Cole Palmer stokes the Blues fire as the Chelsea star joins an exclusive club after registering a goal and assist in 3-2 win over Luton for the FOURTH time already this season

  • No player has managed a goal and assist in a game as many times this season
  • Cole Palmer joined Chelsea for £42.5m with just 19 top-flight games to his name
  • Did defeat by Man United expose a chink in Aston Villa’s armour? It’s All Kicking Off
  • Where would Chelsea be without Cole Palmer?

The 21-year-old hauled the Blues over the line once more with a couple of goals and an assist against Luton and Mauricio Pochettino’s side are still tenth.

This was another afternoon where one of the country’s finest young talents showed why Chelsea paid £42.5million for a player who only had 19 top-flight appearances. Yet this was not the showing of an all-action general, dominating play all over the pitch.

Of Chelsea’s starters, only Armando Broja had fewer touches and Palmer had the majority in his own half.

When he did get the ball, though, boy did he make it count.

Cole Palmer had the second-fewest touches of Chelsea’s starters but made it count at Luton

England starlet stole the show with two goals and an assist in Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Hatters

This was the fourth time that Palmer has both scored and assisted in a Premier League game this season. No one in the division has done it as often.

Only two Chelsea players have ever done so in more Premier League games in a single season for the Blues – Mason Mount (six in 21-22) and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (five in 00-01) – and there’s still 18 games to go.

Palmer joined an exclusive club. He’s been directly involved in 12 Premier League goals this season with eight goals and four assists.

He’s only the fifth Chelsea player to reach double figures in a campaign while 21 or younger.

    IT’S ALL KICKING OFF!

It’s All Kicking Off is an exciting new podcast from Mail Sport that promises a different take on Premier League football, with a show every Monday and Thursday this season.

It is available on MailOnline, Mail+, YouTube , Apple Music and Spotify

The question is no longer whether Palmer will go to the Euros but who he’ll replace to get there.

Only three English players have more goals and assists than Palmer, but no midfielder in the league can match him.
