Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) – “Let’s go Buffalo,” chanted Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown Saturday as he led a ‘Go Bills’ rally on the steps of city hall, setting the stage for the Bills match-up with the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday.

The tone of the rally was spirited, but different too, as Brown acknowledged the support that came from Cincinnati after the on-field collapse of Damar Hamlin and suspension of the regular season game between the same two teams.

“We’re also here to thank the Cincinnati community for supporting Damar Hamlin … let’s give Cincinnati a round of applause.”

But there was no doubt the gathering was a red, white and blue Bills rally as fans waved flags, chanted and cheered, and Bills legend Steve Tasker spoke to the crowd.

“All Bills fans,” said Tasker as he rattled off all walks of life in Buffalo and Western New York and what he encountered when he came to Buffalo to play for the Bills team that ultimately made four Super Bowl runs. “They’re all Bills fans.”

Tomorrow, Tasker said, the Bills players will witness a self-realization as they run to the field before a sold out home crowd. “There is noting like it,” said Tasker about walking down the tunnel to hit the field for a Bills playoff game. “You finally realize what it means to be a Buffalo Bill in this town.”

‘Charlie the Butcher’ was on the steps of city hall and had a platter of ‘beef on weck’ sandwiches that will be sent to the Cincinnati mayor in recognition for their support and understanding through the Hamlin injury.

The rally ended the same way it began, with Mayor Brown leading the crowd in a boisterous ‘Let’s Go Buffalo’ chant.
