GMB: Alastair plays ‘It’s Coming Home’ on the bagpipes

Good Morning Britain was presented by Susanna Reid and Alastair Campbell today. With England set to take on Denmark in the 2020 Euros later this evening, Alastair, whose father is Scottish, played a couple of football theme tunes on his bagpipes. But those watching at home were divided by his musical offering; some loved the early morning rendition, others struggled to listen and ‘turned over’ the TV channel.

Taking to Twitter to comment, one said: “Amazed to see Alastair Campbell playing the bagpipes – impressive #GMB.”

“Alistair Campbell playing the bagpipes is the content I signed up for #GMB,” another agreed.

A third mentioned: “Well done Alastair, that was beautiful playing the Bagpipes on GMB there, truly was so enjoyable to listen to, you do have a great musical talent. Well done you.“

However, someone else tweeted: “Watching #GMB what was that horrible bagpipe noise?”

“#gmb has gone down the pan having Alastair Campbell on and now having him play the bagpipes badly! Had to turn over,” another wrote while one fan chimed: “#gmb Mute. Cannot stand the sound of bagpipes, let alone at 7am.”

“Don’t wanna be hearing bagpipes #gmb,” a comment read.

Another penned: “Turn on GMB, see Alister Campbell playing bagpipes, see him say footballs not coming home. Turn tv off.”

“Alistair on gmtv using the Scottish bagpipes to play footballs coming home. Rubbing the Scots noses in it? #GMB,” another complained.

Someone else argued: “Scottish bagpipes on England’s big day… bad taste gmb.”

“So we have had Denmark fans on and Scottish bagpipes on really GMB,” a different viewer echoed.

But another commented: “Well played! It’s easy for people to mock it being out of tune but it takes great skill to play the bagpipes!”

“That brings back memories. I lived opposite a park and a guy used to practice the bagpipes every Sunday morning. It was lovely,” another recalled.

When the ITV show crossed over the Lorraine to find out what was coming up on her show, she remarked: “There is a time and a place for bagpipes – maybe not first thing in the morning. [Suanna’s] ears must be shattered.”

It comes as Euro 2020 spirit continues to sweep the nation ahead of Wednesday’s match against Denmark.

It is taking place at Wembley and will kick off at 8pm. Following last week’s momentous performance against Ukraine, in which England won 4 – 0, fans are eagerly awaiting the next game.

If England wins, the team’s place in the Euro 2020 finals will be secured.

Despite kick-off being 12 hours away, broadcasters are allocating plenty of coverage to pre-match news.

Elsewhere on the show, host Susanna Reid questioned Alastair’s support of England.

Discussing the upcoming game, Alastair commented: “I think England fans are getting a bit carried away because I think Denmark are a really, really, really strong side.”

Susanna interrupted: “But, we’ve got quite a bit of luck on our side. We’ve got tens of thousands of England fans at Wembley, 6,000 Denmark fans.”
