Glasgow sports presenter Darrell Currie has shared details of his ongoing battle with a chronic pain condition, in a social media post explaining his on-screen absence.

Darrell is a regular pundit on the BT Sport couch, and is usually spotted between Chris Sutton and other ex-footballers, commenting on the latest Scottish football match. However, he has been absent from television for a while, and decided to let people know the reasons behind his absence.

Writing on Twitter, Darrell said: “Happy New Year to you all. I’m sorry I’ve not been with you on Live TV recently. I have been dealing with a chronic pain condition which has brought challenges to my life as I feel constantly dizzy, imbalanced and find walking difficult at times.

“I’m working very hard with doctors to find the root cause of this problem, but it has been an extremely tough time for me and my family. I am fighting with all my strength to try to find a way to recover.

“I want to express my gratitude for all the support I’ve had in recent months and all the kind messages I’ve been sent have been warmly received. The support from people I work for and with has been incredible.

“I am truly thankful. I hope to return to Live TV at some point in 2023.

“My family provides daily motivation and encouragement. They constantly remind me that giving up is not an option.”

Darrell’s bare-all message was met with an overflow of support from fans and friends alike, as fellow pundits share their messages of good-will and encouragement.

Fellow presenter Amy Irons wrote: “So sorry to hear this Darrell. I really hope doctors can get to bottom of it and that you’ll be on the mend soon.”

Sky Sports employee Keith Downie said: “Thinking about you mate. Hope to see you back soon.”

Dundee United footballer and ex-Celtic kid Tony Watt also replied, saying: “Sorry to hear Darrell, it’s not the same without you. Health first.”

And BBC Sport presenter Emma Louise Jones said: “Sending you love and positivity, Darrell. I hope they get to the bottom of it soon and you’re able to get back to the job you love.”

We send all our best wishes and support to Darrell and his family, and hope he is back to presenting soon.
