Giants sign ex-Mets slugging outfielder

It’s a win-win.

Michael Conforto has finally found a landing spot, and the San Francisco Giants have at last secured a slugging outfielder.

The Giants signed the free-agent to a two-year, $36 million deal, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports. Conforto sat out the 2022 season while he recovered from shoulder surgery.

Conforto, an All-Star in 2017, played with the Mets from 2015 to 2021. In his final season with the Mets he hit .232 with 14 homers and 55 RBI. After the 2021 season, Conforto declined a one-year $18.4 million qualifying offer from the Mets an instead became a free agent.

So far this offseason, the Giants lost outfielder Aaron Judge (nine years, $360 million) and left-hander Carlos Rodon (six years, $162 million) to the New York Yankees.

In addition, the Giants had their deal with shortstop Carlos Correa fall apart, only to see the two-time All-Star sign with the New York Mets (12 years, $315 million).

Conforto had also been linked to the Yankees, as a spot in left-field opened up after Andrew Benintendi signed a five-year, $75 million contract with the Chicago White Sox.
