‘Get some help’: National reaction to the Mavs’ loss to Clippers in Game 7
Mavs #Mavs
Another year, another early playoff exit.
A season and series that began with high expectations ended just like last season for the Dallas Mavericks. Only this time, Dallas squandered a two-game lead to extend its playoff drought.
Despite a 46 point effort from Luka Doncic, the Los Angeles Clippers created separation in the second half to take Game 7 of the opening round, 126-111. Three Clippers scored 20-plus points, including Kawhi Leonard with a team-high 28. Seven Clippers scored in double digits, compared to just five for the Mavericks.
Here is how social media reacted to the Mavericks’ elimination:
Luka Doncic and Damian Lillard: tied in 2021 All-Star fan voting and for being the NBA stars most in need of major roster help.

As much credit as the big names will get…
Reggie Jackson did the damn thing for the Clippers this series.

Mavs been resting on that ’11 title for way too long. Time to take a hard look at building a championship-level roster. https://t.co/pTbYQDjjWU

Oh now all of a sudden the Mavericks roster is horrible lol? Y’all kill me bro. They need to make some upgrades but y’all weren’t talking about them being barbecue chicken when they went up 2-0. pic.twitter.com/4NTrTtheS1

With the Mavericks eliminated, none of the eight remaining teams have won a championship this century.
The most recent champion among those remaining in the playoff field is the 76ers, who last won in 1983.

Streets are saying Kristaps Porzingis’ Mavericks ID card not gonna work anymore when he tries to enter the facility tomorrow. #NBAPlayoffs

Kawhi Leonard doing what LeBron James was unable to do this season, put his team on his shoulders down 3-2 to win playoff series, the Clippers smooth sailing past the Mavericks! #HappyDance pic.twitter.com/z89OyusjaA

The Mavericks lost to the Clippers, but what an incredible showing from Luka Doncic.
In this series, the 22-year-old averaged 35.7 points, 10.3 assists, 8.1 rebounds, 4.4 threes and 1.3 steals, while shooting 49% from the field and 40.8% from three-point range. pic.twitter.com/BgJjDP6l2s

What is the Mavericks’ path to getting better? Because this supporting cast for Luka ain’t it.
— Ben Axelrod (@BenAxelrod) June 6, 2021
If the Mavericks find a way to get a quality player for the husk of porzingis, they’re going to be a problem in the West.

The Clippers have a better basketball team than the Mavericks. Hopefully the Mavericks can improve their basketball team. We have Luka. That’s hot.

The question Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks will have to eventually confront: is Luka as patient as Dirk?
— Tim Roberts (@21stCenturyTim) June 6, 2021
The Mavericks losing in 7 to this team is a pretty acceptable outcome. It’s just going to hit different after the route they took to get there.
