Germany coach Hansi Flick is planning to add some newcomers to the squad for two friendly internationals in March as the team aims to rebound from another World Cup disaster.

Flick said during a Euro 2024 event in Cologne on Tuesday that he and his coaching team are already discussing “what they have seen in match observations and which players have stood out.”

“We will see if we have one or two newcomers with us. It will be interesting,” Flick said.

The games against Peru on March 25 and Belgium three days later will be the first for Germany since the group stage exit at the World Cup in Qatar last December.

“We want to show what we are made of. I’m sure we have a very good quality. It’s a matter of delivering a good performance in the right moment,” the coach said.

Flick recognized that “it’s clear that we must improve” defensively. “If you take a look at the World Cup, the most successful teams were the ones who conceded the fewest goals. Our opponents were more efficient than us, that’s why we were eliminated.”
