Geraldo says Hutchinson deserves Medal of Freedom, defends Bret Bair’s assessment of disputed testimony

The testimony of former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson regarding former President Donald Trump on Jan. 6 is at best questionable, but proponents of the narrative are so desperate for it to ring true that they will risk any remaining shred of credibility they have left to defend it and their fellow service members on the frontlines of corporate media hackery.

Cue Geraldo Rivera.

The co-host from Fox News’ “The Five” knows that, as yet, there have been no reported confirmations that any of the claims made by Hutchinson, the aide to then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, are true. In fact, there have been numerous reports demolishing any hint of veracity pertaining to her hearsay that Trump argued with Secret Service to permit armed attendees at his rally and that he had attempted to gain control of the Secret Service vehicle transporting him to the White House.

Still, Rivera rose to the defense of Fox News anchor Bret Baier who contended Tuesday that Hutchinson’s second-hand testimony, by virtue of being under oath, was more credible than the parties actually involved.

“Fox News Anchor Bret Baier is one of my heroes,” Rivera tweeted shortly after Baier had appeared on “America Reports” with Sandra Smith and John Roberts. “His assessment of today’s bombshell, damning testimony of Trump-aide Cassidy Hutchinson was Right-On; fair, accurate, complete and balanced. He’s right down the middle.”

“She deserves a Presidential Medal of Freedom,” he declared, in support of Hutchinson.

Baier had said, “We are now hearing from the former president on various posts where he questions her accuracy. He goes after her directly, says he doesn’t know who she is and said he didn’t lunge at the Secret Service agent in the Beast, that didn’t happen. He says he didn’t throw his lunch against the wall, that didn’t happen and that she’s lying.”

“Cassidy Hutchinson is under oath on Capitol Hill. The president is on Truth Social making his statement,” the anchor went on. “This testimony was very compelling from beginning to end.”

Rivera had posted several times prior to his defense of Baier, and in less than three hours’ time, with no additional information provided, he went from hedging her testimony to issuing a call for the highest honor the president can issue to a civilian.

Cassidy Hutchinson, top former aide to Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows testified powerfully how recklessly the former president behaved on January 6th. If true, the picture portrayed today shows a man out of control, intent on inciting, and then unleashing the Capitol invasion.

If Ms. Hutchinson’s testimony is believed, then in contemplating the former president’s conduct leading up to, and more damningly, on January 6th is so shocking it should infuse everyone’s thinking about his fitness for office.

“If true” and “If Ms. Hutchinson’s testimony is believed” swiftly turned into President Trump “should have been Convicted” during the second impeachment.

Reality Check: If the evidence and testimony presented today-and throughout the January 6th Hearings-had been available to the House and Senate during the 2d Impeachment, President Trump would have, should have been Convicted.

— Geraldo Rivera (@GeraldoRivera) June 28, 2022

Rivera’s “reality check” is anything but and social media users called him, Baier and the network out for how they handled reporting on the testimony.

“Did he verify with Secret service?” one person asked of Baier’s balanced report. “No he ran with it! Fox didn’t until much later after NBC…On the wrong side again Geraldo! The lying side!”

“Try thinking critically,” another said of Rivera’s assertions that Hutchinson should be lauded. “You’re everything that’s wrong with journalism today, Geraldo…The moment you hear ANYTHING that confirms your beliefs, you’re quick to exalt that information or person.”

For presenting hearsay?!

You’re everything that’s wrong with journalism today, Geraldo. And people who don’t use their brain to think, in general. The moment you hear ANYTHING that confirms your beliefs, you’re quick to exalt that information or person.

Try thinking critically.

As seen from NBC News chief White House correspondent Peter Alexander, sources are saying the agents in question are prepared to testify that the incident did not happen as Hutchinson described:

🚨 A source close to the Secret Service tells me both Bobby Engel, the lead agent, and the presidential limousine/SUV driver are prepared to testify under oath that neither man was assaulted and that Mr. Trump never lunged for the steering wheel.
