Geraldo Rivera talks possibility of joining CNN full-time after leaving Fox News

Former Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera thinks he’d be a “good fit” for a full-time role at CNN.

The 80-year-old Brooklyn native spent 22 years at Fox News, where he was known to clash with the right-wing cable channel’s more conservative personalities. Since leaving that outlet in June, Rivera has appeared on rival cable station CNN nearly a dozen times according to the Daily Beast, which asked Rivera if he might be going to work more permanently for his former competitor.

“I think it would be a good fit,” he reportedly texted about the possibility.

Rivera said there have been no formal discussions about him joining the CNN staff and joked that maybe he needs an agent. CNN has not addressed the matter.

The longtime TV host visited ABC’s “The View” in July, where he said he should have left Fox News much earlier, but couldn’t conjure up the nerve. Rivera cited a “toxic” relationship with a Fox News colleague and accused the embattled outlet of suffering “a moral crisis” following the 2020 presidential election, when the network spread lies that resulted in multiple lawsuits.

Rivera’s first prime-time interview after leaving Fox News was with fired CNN host Chris Cuomo on NewsNation in July. Rivera, who mentored Cuomo, said he stuck around Fox News as long as he did “for the money.”

Should Rivera get an offer from CNN, he’d follow the lead of Chris Wallace, who spent 18 years at Fox News before joining CNN last year. He too has been critical of his former employer’s loose relationship with facts.
