Georgia authorities warn social media users of ‘puppy sale scam’

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office warned Facebook and Instagram users of a puppy sale scam.
Officials said the scam involved someone who posted online about having a dog for sale.

It is unclear if there were any victims and if the individual responsible has been identified.
The sheriff’s office encouraged those in the market to get a dog to locate a legitimate breeder, pet store or consider rescuing an animal in need from a local shelter.

Additionally, authorities said those buying items off social media platforms should be wary of using Peer to Peer payment platforms such as Cash App and Venmo.
