Country music star Garth Brooks is opening a new bar on Broadway called Friends in Low Places and he is funding a police substation.

Dalton Black, a musician who performs on Broadway, says he is a huge Garth Brooks fan.

“He’s given that performance for thousands of people and it feels like one on one every time and he’s the only person I’ve seen in my life do that,” Black emphasized.

Black says it is even more admirable that Garth Brooks is offering this resource to enhance security and safety downtown.

Black says he performs on Broadway five nights a week.

“Just feeling safer walking to our cars cause we get out 2:30, 3 a.m. every morning,” Black said.

Black is not alone.

Jacob Lowe is a bouncer at Tootsie’s on Broadway.

“We do need more security because sometimes when you think something’s not happening, it’s happening right before your eyes,” Lowe said.

Metro says the police substation will go in the alley next to his new entertainment venue.

FOX 17 News called Metro Police and they say the goal of the substation is to reduce traffic congestion and keep the cities’ busiest few blocks secure.

Tourists say they have felt relatively safe, but they have stayed aware of their surroundings.

“He’s going to lead the way,” tourist Jon Wood says.

“I think it’s an awesome thing to be doing, we need to do more of that and to think that he’s doing that is even better,” another tourist, Linda Larue added.

They are hoping more people follow his lead to help keep Downtown Nashville safe.

FOX 17 News does not have an exact date as to when Garth Brooks’ bar is opening, but in an Instagram post it says, “opening soon”.
