Garland County Sheriff arrests pair in string of storage unit break-ins

GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. – Two Garland County men have been arrested in connection with a string of storage unit break-ins throughout the county.

The Garland County Sheriff’s Office said 28-year-old Christian Malcom and 30-year-old James Humphrey were arrested on Jan. 31 and are currently in the county detention center. Court records show Malcom and Humphrey were both charged on Feb. 2 with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of drugs with intent to deliver, and possession of fentanyl after their arrest by the judicial district’s Drug Task Force.

Detention center records show Malcom is facing additional criminal trespass charges. Both are held on bond, Malcom at $205,000 and Humphrey at $112, 500.

The arrests coincided with numerous search warrants executed throughout the county, resulting in the recovery of some of the stolen items, a department spokesperson said. Items recovered during the warrant search included items taken from Hot Springs Village storage facilities, the spokesperson added.

Investigators said they discovered Malcolm was a former storage unit employee and used what he learned at that job to commit the break-ins.

The investigation remains underway and more arrests and property recovery is possible, Sheriff Mike McCormick said.
