Tony Cascarino has questioned Harry Maguire’s role in Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United side after a disappointing campaign.
Towards the end of last season, fans started to question Maguire’s future as United’s skipper. Although there are still doubts over his credentials to captain the side, Maguire remains a key member of Gareth Southgate’s England team.
Irrespective of his form at club level, the 29-year-old has retained his place in the Three Lions squad. But for Cascarino, Maguire’s place in the United team should be under threat as Ten Hag plans for his first season in the Premier League with the World Cup to come later this year.

“You might have a scenario where he (Maguire) plays really well for England, it gets to the start of the season and Ten Hag doesn’t play him for Man United,” he said, speaking to talkSPORT. “Now what does Gareth do?
“That is a possible scenario, it’s not unlikely because there are a lot of scapegoats at Man United. Last year was dreadful and there’ll be scapegoats and Harry Maguire might be one of them.
“Ten Hag might go down the road of ‘not for me’, that happens sometimes at club football and he might be second fiddle or on the bench then Gareth hasn’t got one of his leading men. Although he’s not let him down, is he brave enough, Gareth, to select a player that’s not in the club side and then select him for the World Cup?”
