Game 17: Fairmont Senior gets by East Fairmont, heads to Class AAA title game

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — The No. 1 Fairmont Senior Polar Bears will compete for a Class AAA title on Championship after downing the No. 4 East Fairmont Bees 47-31 Thursday evening.
Thursday’s semifinal matchup saw Fairmont Senior’s Darrell Claybrook score on a fast break in the opening minute, giving the Polar Bears a lead they would keep until the final buzzer.
Senior earned a double-digit advantage by the end of the first quarter and took a 27-10 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The triple threat of Zycheus Dobbs, Tre Cumberledge and Andre Grant gave the Polar Bears 27 points in the second half and a comfortable lead at the end of the match.
Dobbs notched a double-double by snagging 10 rebounds and scoring a game-high 21 points. Cumberledge finished with 14 points while Grant earned 11 in the winning effort.
The Bees were led by Maddox Boyers who scored 14 points, which included two buckets from long range.
Fairmont Senior has a date set with No. 2 Shady Spring. The top two seeds will compete for a state championship Saturday. Tipoff at the Charleston Coliseum is scheduled for 10 a.m.
