Gadsden area football rankings: How did week zero shake up standings

Here are the all-class power rankings ahead of the high school football in the Gadsden area. All 27 teams, regardless of class, in the Gadsden Times coverage zone are eligible to be ranked.

NEW COACH: How did Gadsden area first time high school football coaches fare in their first games

1. Cherokee County (1-0): The Warriors ran all over Alexandria and look to pick up right where they left off season. Last Week: No. 1, 48-14 win over Alexandria; This week: Road vs. Piedmont

2. Gadsden City (1-0): The Titans earned a complete team win over a strong Carver team out of Montgomery, and TJ Worthy showed he can carry the load. Last Week: No. 2, 37-20 win over Carver-Montgomery; This week: Home vs. Hewitt-Trussville

3. Fyffe (0-0): The Class 2A state champions from last season return their back and lineman of the year nominees. Last Week: No. 4, bye; This week: Home vs. Geraldine

4. Coosa Christian (0-0): A week zero loss is disappointing, but the Conquerors played better than the score and were playing up two classes. Last Week: No. 3, 26-0 loss to Geraldine; This week: road vs. Spring Garden

5. Etowah (0-1): The Blue Devils fell in week zero to an intricate offense, but look to bounce back. One loss isn’t a cause for concern, yet. Last Week: No. 5, 28-21 loss to Springville; This week: Home vs. Fort Payne

6. Piedmont (0-0): The Bulldogs made the state championship game, but lost coach Steve Smith and their record-setting quarterback. Last Week: No. 6, bye; This week: Home vs. Cherokee County

7. Jacksonville (1-0): The Golden Eagles offense shined and were firing on all cylinders in their week zero win. If they can keep it up, they’ll be hard to beat. Last Week: No. 9, 43-21 win over Boaz This week: Home vs. Alexandria

8. Southside (0-1): The Panthers offense struggled to capitalize on a stong day from Mason Teague, but will look to get back on track in week one. Last Week: No. 7, 14-10 loss to Guntersville This week: Home vs. Hokes Bluff on Thursday

9. Spring Garden (1-0): The Panthers started the Barrett Ragsdale era with a county rivalry win. Last Week: No. 10, 48-22 win over Sand Rock; This week: home vs. Coosa Christian

10. Geraldine (1-0): The Bulldogs had a dominant season-opening win over Class 1A semifinalist Coosa Christian, but have a tough test against rival Fyffe this week. Last week: NR, 26-0 win over Coosa Christian; This week: road vs. Fyffe
