FSU QB Jordan Travis named to Maxwell Award watch list

Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis was among 85 college players on the Maxwell Award watch list.

Travis enters his junior season as FSU’s clear-cut starter after leading the Seminoles to a 5-3 record in 2021. He finished with 1,539 passing yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for a team-high 530 yards and seven touchdowns last season.

The West Palm native has appeared in 22 career games (14 starts) during his three seasons with the Seminoles, passing for 2,674 yards and 21 touchdowns and he holds the school record for career rushing yards for a quarterback (1,317). He began his college career at Louisville in 2018 before transferring to FSU a year later.

Former FSU quarterback Charlie Ward won the Maxwell Award in 1993.

Travis was one of 42 quarterbacks and 12 players from the ACC named to the Maxwell watch list, which is given to the top college player in the country. Semifinalists will be revealed on Nov. 1, with the three finalists announced on Nov. 22. The winner will be named as part of the ESPN’s College Football Awards Show on Dec. 8.

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young won the Maxwell Award last season and is looking to become the first two-time winner since Florida quarterback Tim Tebow (2017-18).
