Frodon records sixth Cheltenham win in the Matchbook Betting Exchange Handicap Chase
Frodon #Frodon
The eight-year-old was winning his sixth race at Cheltenham and made light of 11st 12lb to lead the field a merry dance.
Going to the second last he had beaten off all bar the strong travelling West Approach (15/2) who for a stride or two threatened to play the role of party popper.
However Frodon was brilliant again at the last and wasn’t going to be beaten from that point, hitting the line a length-and-a-half ahead of his rival with Cloth Cap (13/2) back in third.
The winning trainer said: “He had a huge weight and over that trip I think it’s a career best and a performance to put him in the Gold Cup picture. That will be the target.”
Plenty to celebrate for team Frodon again
Frost added: “Paul picked this race because of the trip and to get the season started and that heavy shower we had before the race really got into the ground.
“Weight stops trains and it was the only thing that was going to stop us today and the rest of the field knew the way to beat me was to keep pushing me forward and try maximise my stamina and make the weight tell.
“His class pushed that way worry aside and the jumps he produced out there were unbelievable; He really is just magic to be with like that.”
This was some performance from a mark of 164 and he’s a 25/1 chance with Sky Bet, Betfair and Paddy Power for chasing’s blue riband.
Sky Bet Head of Sports PR Michael Shinners said: “Frodon continued his love affair with Cheltenham by winning in gutsy fashion. He deserves a quote for the Gold Cup after winning off a mark of 164 and we go 25/1 to win next year’s big race”
