Freya Ridings Bares Her Soul For Stirring Cover of Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Drivers License’: Watch

Freya Ridings put her own soulful spin on Olivia Rodrigo’s No. 1 smash “Drivers License” on Thursday (March 11).

Filmed at The Pool Studios in London, where she previously filmed performances of her own songs “Elephant” and “Castle,” Ridings took her seat by the piano and let her low, wavering vocals take hold of the ballad.

Like Rodrigo, the English singer-songwriter got none other than Taylor Swift’s approval when she performed a slowed-down, soulful cover of “Me!” from her 2019 album Lover at BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge in July 2019. Swift reposted the clip on her Instagram Story, writing, “This cover is incredible!! Shout out to the amazing musicians/vocalists too, this made my day!”

Before her debut single-turned-runaway smash got a T-Swift co-sign, the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star caught the pop superstar’s attention when she posted a cover of “Cruel Summer” on her IG Live for MTV’s Alone Together Jam Session in April 2020. Swift also reshared her performance on her own IG Story and wrote “THE TALENT,” which left Rodrigo speechless and on the floor, according to her reaction post.
