Fremantle’s Blake Acres has produced a genuine goal of the year contender — bending home a mind-boggling snap as the Dockers put their foot down in their crunch clash with Carlton.

Acres got on the end of a clever tap by Michael Walters from a stoppage, shrugged a would-be tackle from former teammate Adam Cerra and kicked a remarkable floating snap running at full pace towards the boundary.

The goal came during a third-quarter purple patch and put the Dockers 37 points ahead in the crucial Saturday night clash.

The incredible feat sparked an already raucous Optus Stadium crowd as Dockers players came from everywhere to celebrate with Acres near the boundary.

It also came from an almost identical spot to where Carlton’s Jack Newnes kicked a goal after the siren to sink the Dockers in round 12, 2020.

It has been an otherwise quiet night for Acres, with the winger touching the footy just 11 times.

It was also a clear demonstration of Fremantle’s dominance around the ball after half-time, with back-up ruck Rory Lobb winning an easy hit-out from a forward 50 boundary throw-in.

It was the 34th goal of Acres’ career.

The Dockers have kicked four goals to two in third term, with Carlton skipper Patrick Cripps nailing both of their majors for the term.

Earlier, Cerra was welcomed back to Perth by a chorus of boos by Fremantle fans every time he went near the ball.

Teammate Charlie Curnow made a strong response — pointing to the raucous crowd after kicking his first goal.
