A video appearing to show former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton involved in altercation at a youth football camp surfaced Sunday on social media.
Videos show a person who appears to Newton grappling with several people, several of whom can be seen throwing punches before security intervened.
Newton last played in the NFL during the 2021 season for the Panthers. Teams from Newton’s 7-on-7 league, C1N, were in attendance at the Atlanta tournament.
The winning 15-under team of the youth tournament was Newton’s own C1N.
Newton commented on an Instagram post featuring C1N players celebrating the championship.
“-1ØVĖ🤟🏾,” Newton wrote in his comment.
The team’s Instagram story also features a video of Newton at the center of a team huddle, wearing what appears to be the same hat seen in the video of the altercation.
Newton has coached 7-on-7 football teams for over a decade through C1N.
Gardner reported for USA Today that the altercation appeared to involve members of TopShelf Performance (TSP), an 18-under national 7-on-7 football program.
Although Newton spent the majority of his NFL career in Carolina, the former quarterback now lives in Atlanta with his family.
The 34-year-old, who has not played in an NFL game since January 2022, said last month he would considering returning to the league only if he received an offer from the Atlanta Falcons.
“Me having a family now, it’s always been about family, and I don’t see myself leaving Atlanta. If it’s not Atlanta, I don’t want to do it,” Newton said during a January appearance on Good Morning Football.
