Former Blazers assistant coach Jim Moran to join Detroit Pistons

A longtime member within the Trail Blazers organization will be on a new sideline next season.

Following the mutual parting of ways between Portland and Terry Stotts, members of the coaching staff were also relieved of their duties as Chauncey Billups is bringing in a whole new group of coaches.

Saturday, The Athletic’s James Edwards III reported the Detroit Pistons plan to hire Jim Moran to its coaching staff.

Moran began his NBA career as a player development coach for the D-League’s Maine Red Claws franchise from 2013-14. Then, he served as Portland’s associate video coordinator in 2014-16 before being promoted full-time as assistant coach.

While in Portland, he specialized in player development helping players such as Gary Trent Jr. and Anfernee Simons. As Detroit embraces a rebuild, Moran likely assumes a similar role.

The 6’7″ coach spent ten yearts playing professionally in Spain from 2001-2011.
