Football fans thought it was ridiculous the NFL suspended players for betting on other leagues

The NFL’s suspension of five players for violating the league’s gambling policy has social media lighting up on Friday.

Four players on the Detroit Lions faced penalties with safety C.J. Moore and wide receiver Quintez Cephus suspended indefinitely by the league, and then immediately cut by their team. Washington Commanders defensive end Shaka Toney was also suspended indefinitely.

The rules they broke were crystal clear: They bet on NFL games. The ultimate no-no.

Detroit wideouts Jameson Williams and Stanley Berryhill both received six-game suspensions for breaking a different rule. They bet on non-NFL games while inside team facilities. While not as unforgivable a sin, it’s still against league policy and will likely change the club’s draft strategy.

But the fact that they were gambling their own money on games that had absolutely nothing to do with the NFL didn’t sit right with football fans.
