Oct. 17—John Floe, a member of the Olivehurst Public Utility District Board of Directors, announced Tuesday his intent to run for the Yuba County Board of Supervisors District 3 seat, which represents Olivehurst and parts of Linda.

Floe will run in opposition to incumbent Supervisor Seth Fuhrer, who announced his run to keep his seat earlier this month.

Floe, who said he has a master’s degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix, is a pastor for Truth Tabernacle Church in Marysville and is a retired U.S. Air Force veteran, having served for 23 years and settling in Olivehurst with his wife of 37 years. Together, they have one son and two grandsons.

In 2006, Floe joined the Sutter-Yuba Behavioral Health Department, helping professionals provide education and training for early intervention programs focused on behavioral health, substance abuse, and homeless services. After 17 years, Floe retired in May as the department’s program manager of community services.

He has also served on the Sutter Yuba Homeless Consortium Board of Directors since 2010.

In addition to his master’s degree, Floe holds a classification of California Certified Prevention Specialist with the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals.

In 2014, Floe was elected to the Olivehurst Public Utility District Board of Directors, and is currently serving his third term.

“My entire adult life has revolved around service and giving back to this community I love,” Floe said in a statement. “First through my service in the Air Force, and now for the past 30 years with a focus on preventative resources and care for Yuba County’s most vulnerable citizens. Through my work as a local church pastor, nonprofit volunteer and in government service, I strive every day to help those in need.”

If elected as District 3 supervisor, Floe said he will focus on business development and infrastructure improvements in the southern portion of Yuba County, including water and sewer line expansions. He will also further flood risk reduction projects through the Yuba Water Agency, the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office crime reduction efforts and decreasing homeless and transient activity in Olivehurst and West Linda.

“Through decades of good planning and our amazing partnership with the Yuba Water Agency, Yuba County has the opportunity to become the top business, residential and tourism destination in the region,” Floe said. “Now, more than ever, it is critical that Yuba County elect leaders with a proven track record of professionalism, building relationships with regional partners, and giving back. I would be honored to continue to serve our community as your next supervisor.”
