First Lady Zelenska urges world not to forget about Russia’s war against Ukraine

Zelenska gave an interview to an Australian program

In a conversation with Australian journalist Sarah Abo, Zelenska explained why it is so important to support Ukraine.“This is a war of worldviews,” she said.

“On the one hand – the Russian aggressor, on the other – Ukrainians who protect those they love.”

Zelenska also admitted she was not ready for the role of the country’s first lady, especially during the war.

“No one prepares for the work of the first ladies,” she said.

“Unfortunately, there are no how-to guides or books that you can read and understand what it’s like to be the wife of the president. We want victories, and we’re happy about them, but we also understand this is a difficult and brutal war.”

Commenting on her photo shoot for Vogue magazine, which had sparked controversy on the Internet, Zelenska admitted her dreams had been destroyed, like the dreams of all Ukrainians.

“First of all, why I decided to do this is because this is a large media outlet with a multi-million audience,” she said.

“The truth must be spoken on all possible platforms. I was only worried for the shot near the Mriya (the world’s largest cargo plane, destroyed by invading Russian forces in Hostomel in late February). Because this is a plane we were proud of, and it is now destroyed. And this is also my destroyed dream.”

Zelenska added that Ukrainians cannot make plans for the future. She also spoke about how their own children are living in war conditions.

“Like all children in Ukraine,” she said.

“The first days they asked when it would end. Usually at this time of the year, our families tried to plan what they would do for Christmas, how they would celebrate the New Year. But now every new day is a holiday for us. Our daily question is ‘How are you?’ And we answer: ‘Holding on.’”
