First Alert Weather: Increasing clouds and warm temperatures Thursday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Good morning and happy Thursday! You’ll need the jacket this morning. Temperatures are starting out in the mid-to-upper 30s. Most of us are several degrees warmer compared to this time yesterday. Winds remain light, so the wind chill is not a factor for us this morning.

Out The Door Forecast(WBRC)

First Alert AccuTrack Satellite and Radar is showing us dry and mostly clear with extra clouds south of Interstate 20. We will likely see cloud cover slowly increase this afternoon giving us a partly cloudy sky. It will remain very warm today with high temperatures climbing into the mid-to-upper 60s. Winds are forecast to come from the southwest at 5 to 10 mph.

If you have any evening plans, we will remain dry with a partly to mostly cloudy sky. Temperatures are forecast to cool into the mid-to-upper 50s by 7 p.m.

Mostly cloudy Friday: We will likely see a mostly cloudy sky tomorrow morning. Extra clouds will likely prevent us from dropping into the 30s tomorrow. I think most of us will wake up with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 40s. We should remain dry during the daylight hours Friday with high temperatures climbing into the upper 60s. We will remain mostly cloudy to overcast with southwest winds continuing at 5 to 10 mph.

Future Radar – Fri. 11PM(WBRC)

Isolated showers will be possible Friday evening after 7 p.m. for parts of northwest Alabama. The chance of rain will likely increase to 60% Friday night into early Saturday morning as a cold front pushes into Alabama. Rainfall totals should remain light with most of us picking up a tenth of an inch.

Cold air arrives Saturday: Winter will make a brief return over the weekend! Showers should come to an end around sunrise Saturday with the bulk of the rain impacting the southern half of the state Saturday afternoon. Winds will shift from the southwest to the northwest bringing in dry and cold air into the northern half of Alabama. We will likely see temperatures drop into the upper 30s Saturday morning.

Wind Chill Forecast(WBRC)

The wind chill Saturday morning could drop into the 20s! Temperatures won’t warm up a lot on Saturday afternoon with most of us in the low-to-mid 40s. When you combine breezy winds from the northwest at 10 to 20 mph, it will likely feel like it is in the 30s for most of the day. We will likely remain mostly cloudy Saturday with cloud cover decreasing and moving out Saturday night into Sunday morning. It will definitely be sweater weather Saturday into Sunday morning!

Freezing temperatures likely Sunday: The coldest air to arrive this month occurs Sunday morning as temperatures drop into the mid-to-upper 20s. It would not surprise me if we saw lower 20s in parts of north Alabama. I highly recommend bringing the pets inside and covering up your plants Saturday evening. The good news is that we’ll see plenty of sunshine Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will remain below average, but we should see highs climb into the mid-50s.

Looking Ahead:  The cold snap this weekend will likely be short-lived. We are forecasting temperatures to trend above average for most of next week with highs in the 60s and overnight lows in the 30s and 40s. We could see temperatures briefly warm into the lower 70s by next Wednesday and Thursday!

Low Temperatures Next 7 Days(WBRC)

Rain chances remain isolated next week. We could see isolated showers Monday night into Tuesday morning with another round of light rain next Thursday into Friday morning. I see no signs of heavy rainfall, winter weather, or severe weather over the next seven to ten days. All good news!
