FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY: Early widespread rain and 40+ mph wind gusts through the day Tuesday
Good Tuesday #GoodTuesday
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Good Tuesday morning. Today is a FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY for the continuing periods of heavy rainfall and gusty winds across the Tennessee Valley.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect for all counties through midnight. Winds will be sustained between 15 to 30 miles per hour with occasional wind gusts over 40 miles per hour, additional scattered power outages remain a possibility through the day today. Widespread rainfall this morning will lead to a difficult morning commute for many of you with ponding and puddles expected on area roads. Please travel with caution and avoid hydroplaning.
The widespread rainfall will start to taper off from west to east by late morning into the afternoon leaving us cloudy and still very windy. Colder air will surge in on the backside of the center of low pressure and temperatures will fall quickly by the late afternoon. There is a chance of seeing some isolated light snow showers tonight with little to no impacts expected as soil and road temperatures should stay above freezing.
Wednesday will start cloudy and cold with morning temperatures in the lower 30s. The clouds on Wednesday will begin to thin into the afternoon with some late sunshine and high temps in the middle to upper 40s. Winds are also expected to stay breezy on Wednesday making it feel much colder through much of the day. Thursday is the best day of the week with some sunshine and highs in the middle 50s.
We have the First Alert out for Friday with another strong storm system forecast to sweep across the Tennessee Valley. This system will bring widespread heavy rainfall, gusty gradient wind gusts and potentially a few stronger thunderstorms… check back for the latest on Friday’s forecast. The weekend should stay rain-free but cold with highs in the low to middle 40s for Saturday and Sunday.
We are watching yet another system for Monday into Tuesday of next week that can bring us some more rain showers or even some wintry precipitation, details remain uncertain at this time.
