Here is what is happening in the Coastal Bend from Friday, January 12 to Sunday, January 14.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — It is finally Friday, and we have a weekend full of events coming up in the Coastal Bend. Click on the event name for more information.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday

Join the Coastal Bend Blood Center for the Find The Hero In You Blood Drive. There will be two locations. Donors will be entered to win a $500 H-E-B Gift Card, $200 Amazon Gift Card, PlayStation 5, Blackstone 36″ Flat Grill, Yeti Cooler, and Valero Fuel Card. Donors will receive a “Find The Hero In You” Donor Shirt & an Outback Steakhouse Coupon. On Friday the event will be at Wal-Mart Kingsville from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and in Corpus Christi Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday will be the 13th Annual Texas Winter Market at the Aransas Pass Civic Center. There will be vendors with clothing, jewelry, gifts, Scentsy, Texas handmade, home décor, accessories, gourmet food, photography, Texas wine sampling, candles, and gifts for the guys. The show will be 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $5, or $4 with a non-perishable food donation. Admission is good for both days. Kids 12 and under get in free.

On Friday and Saturday, Get ready to act! Friday and Sunday auditions will be held at the Harbor Playhouse for those wanting to get a role in the play ‘Raise Your Voice.’ Children ages 9-15 are allowed to audition for this production. You must turn 9 years old before April 12 to be considered. If you are 15, you will not be considered if your birthday happens before April 21. This production is focused on casting ages 12-15, as this is a difficult age group to get roles on the main stage. Junie B Jones Jr in the spring will be focused on ages 8-12. This show is primarily all singing and dancing with a minimal script, so be prepared to move! Come dressed in clothes you are comfortable moving in. Children auditioning must have closed-toe shoes, a bottle of water is recommended.

Cheer on the Corpus Christi IceRays at the American Bank Center Friday and Saturday as they take on the New Mexico Ice Wolves. Puck drop is set to take place at 7:05 p.m. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. You can purchase tickets here.

Friday, January 12

Are you looking for a fun way to stay active? Look no further! Grab your friends and join us for open play volleyball for ages 18 and up at Ben Garza Gym. Volleyball is every Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sign up before heading to the gym to get in the game at 1815 Howard St.

Every Friday through January 26, celebrate the birds of the Rockport area. Volunteer, Retired Park Ranger and bird guide, Bob Showler, will look for birds at Aransas Pathways sites and other points of interest. e prepared to drive your own car up to 20 miles round-trip and bring water, sun & insect protection, and binoculars. Access to most sites is free, but there is a $10 fee to enter Rockport Beach Park. Birding with Bob runs from 8:30 until 11:00 a.m.

Every Friday through March 29, Enjoy Storytime at the Ben F. McDonald Public Library. Family Storytime begins at 11:00 a.m. and will have stories, rhymes, songs, and movement to build early literacy and motor skills. The event is for children aged 0-6. If accommodations are required, parents are urged to contact the library at least 48 hours in advance at (361) 826-2356.

Every Friday through August 30, enjoy a night of Pinball at Quasars Arcade. The event allows all skill levels to participate. The cost is $1 for new players, and $6 for veteran players. New players have a global IFPA rank over 10,000. Games still require coin drop per play.

Neal McCoy will be performing at the Brewster Street Ice House on Friday, January 12. Doors are set to open at 8:00 p.m. with the show starting at 9:00 p.m. General Admission costs $25 for advanced tickets and $30 day of show. Tickets can be purchased here.

Unleash your inner artist and learn the art of mural painting with the talented instructors Mayra Zamora and Monica Marie Garcia. All materials will be provided, so just come dressed for a little mess and a lot of creativity. Enjoy an evening filled with fun, laughter, and the joy of creating art. Whether you’re an experienced artist or just looking to try something new, this is the perfect opportunity to express yourself and connect with our vibrant community. The event is  hosted by the Antonio E. Garcia Arts and Education Center at 4:00 p.m.

Cruise Control returns to South Texas Icehouse for a fun evening of live Classic Rock-n-Roll music, so make plans to come out and dance the night away at the coolest, hottest place on the Southside of Corpus Christi at 9:00 p.m. South Texas Icehouse Bar and Grill can be located at 6601 Everhart Rd.

Saturday, January 13

Every Saturday, get some of the freshest goods found in the Coastal Bend. The Corpus Christi Southside Farmers’ Market takes place from 9 a.m.-noon. The event is located at the Everhart Market Shopping Center.

The Fitness Lane spanning 1.5 miles for residents to bike, run, jog and walk along the Bayfront, Saturdays from 7 to 11 a.m. The route begins along the seawall at The Water’s Edge, northbound, towards the American Bank Center with the turnaround just before the barge dock entrance. Online Pre-registration is required. Classes are offered for all skill levels, ages 8 and older Saturdays from 8 to 11 a.m. at The Water’s Edge located at 402 S. Shoreline Blvd. Online Pre-registration is required.

Find seasonal vegetables, artisanal sourdough, and fresh-baked bread. Explore holistic health with natural soaps, microgreens, and herbs. Browse through an array of leather goods, artistic creations, jams, and jellies. Discover a community market where you can support local businesses without the hustle and bustle. The Alice Farmers Market is set to take place every second Saturday of the month through October 12. The event runs from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

The Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures and Education Center will hold a Tea Ceremony. The event is a Japanese tradition steeped in history. It is a ceremonial way of preparing and drinking green tea, typically in a traditional tearoom with a tatami floor. Beyond just serving and receiving tea, one of the main purposes of the tea ceremony is for the guests to enjoy the hospitality of the host in an atmosphere distinct from the fast pace of everyday life.

Seattle Rising will be at the Brewster Street Icehouse, performing a Tribute to 90s Grunge and Alternative Rock. The show is set to begin at 9:00 p.m. Doors open at 8:00 p.m. General Admission cost $10 in advance and $15 the day of show. Tickets can be found here.

Visit the Nueces Delta Preserve and former school field trip participants to come explore a little more. During this once-per-month open to the public opportunity, enjoy the sights and sounds of these protected estuary habitats. Staff and volunteers will be available to answer questions and give background information on plants, animals, and the stories of these special spaces. Apex Collectibles will host a Yu-Gi-Oh Tournament in Kingsville. The Monthly Tournament will take place at 1022 S. 14th St. Pre-registration costs $12 and goes up to $15 at the door. The Tournaments begins at 4:00 p.m.

Corpus Christi’s premier professional wrestling promotion returns Saturday for their 1-year anniversary. The Texas Wrestling Cartel  Presents: True to the Hustle. The event includes talent from Mustafa Ali, IPC”s Violent J, Lucha Libre Legend Vampiro, Eddie Martinez and Heather Wrechless. The event will take place at the Emerald Beach Hotel at 7:00 p.m. Doors open for VIP ticket holders at 6:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. for general admission. Tickets range from $25 to $40 and are available at Off the Wall Sports and Collectibles inside the Corpus Christi Trade Center.

The vibrant and diverse Indigenous cultures of South Texas take center stage at the Indigenous Heritage Celebration at Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History. This event will be an immersive experience into the rich heritage of local Indigenous communities. Taking center stage will be captivating performances by Kalpulli Ehekatl Papalotzin, a distinguished local Mexica group closely linked to the Aztec or Azteca traditions. Hailing from Corpus Christi, TX, their lineage traces back to Tenochtitlan, modern day Mexico City. The museum will also welcome Juan Garcia of the Lipan Tribe of Texas to talk about the history of his community as well as Deron Sun Eagle, who will talk about storytelling within the Pawnee Tribe. The event begins at 10:00 a.m.

Join The Annex for a righteous retro ping pong tournament to declare who is Corpus Christi’s King of Pong. Sport your most retro table tennis attire. Prizes will go to the best male and female retro ping pong outfit. Forrest Gump imitations encouraged. The event is free to enter and begins at 4:00 p.m.

Sunday, January 14

There will be a fun filled pack walk to help your dog develop leash skills, social skills and strengthen your bond as an owner. Pack walks are open to anyone. Pet owners are asked to not use retractable leashes, and must clean up after dogs at all times. Dogs showing dog or people reactivity must be controllable. Non-client dogs with dog or people aggression must wear a properly fitting muzzle that allows the dog to pant and drink. Please wear appropriate shoes and clothing for weather conditions. Please bring water for yourself and your dog. Officials will help guide you during the walk. The Pack Walk Begins at 7:30 a.m. at 904 Elm St. in Portland.

Parents of dachshund will meet for the first Coastal Bend Dach Club meeting of the year. There will be a Potluck Style meeting at 1:00 p.m. Those planning to attend must RSPV on Facebook. Addresses will be sent out the night prior to the event.

Jim Wells County is getting ready for their Habitat for Humanity’s annual fundraiser. Performer Leslie Blasing and her caravan group will be at the event. Tickets are $10 each and are sold by Board Members. There will also be a silent auction and raffle items. The Fundraiser will take place at the Merchants Building at the Jim Wells County Fairgrounds. The event runs from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Upcoming Events

Rockport Fulton Market Days takes place January 19-21. The event runs from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Enjoy shopping with local vendors of artisan and crafts. Rockport Fulton Market Days can be located at 100 Seabreeze in Rockport.

Learn about North America’s only caffeine-producing shrub! Yaupon holly has grown throughout the southwest for thousands of years. Once widely consumed, this plant has been ignored for decades. Learn more about this native plant, and join us afterwards for a cup of tea made straight from the yaupon!  Children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program. Program is free with park entrance $5 per person and children 12 and under are free, or Texas State Parks Annual Pass. Program may be canceled if no participants are present within 10 minutes of the start time, or in the case of inclement weather. The event takes place at the Goose Island State Park on Friday, January 19 at 3:00 p.m.

On Saturday, January 20, Eclipse will perform a the Brewster Street Icehouse. The show is set to start at 9:00 p.m. with doors opening at 8:00 p.m. General Admission tickets cost $15 for advanced sales, and $20 the day of the show. Tickets can be found here.

The Gulf Coast Wrestling Alliance will hold their first show of 2024 on Friday, January 26. The Show ‘When the Smoke Clears,’ costs $20 per person for General Admission and $25 Ringside. At the door, Prices go up $5 and be prepared to bring cash. The event will take place at the Valencia Event Center at 7:00 p.m.

Get registered now for a Tram Tour at the Goose Island State Park. Join a ranger on a ride through the park to learn about the history and ecology that makes Goose Island unique. Take a casual ride on our tram through the park and up to historic Big Tree. There will be opportunities to get out and look around.  Water, weather appropriate clothing, and binoculars. Aurora Arts Theater presents Godspell. The Show begins Friday, January 26 and runs through Saturday, March 9. A small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and hefty doses of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus’ life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life. The 2.5 hour show will have a 15 minute intermission. Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased here.

The East and The Crow will perform a free concert at the Executive Surf Club on Saturday, January 27. Bring your friends, grab your dancing shoes, and get ready to experience the magic firsthand. The band plans on bringing all original tunes, southern heat, and enough energy to light up the whole coast. The show is set to begin at 8:30 p.m.

Whether you’ve never fished or you’re an experienced angler, Goose Island’s pier has enough room for everyone! There will be fishing poles available through the Tackle Loaner Program on a first come first serve basis. Stop by anytime between 2 and 4:00 p.m. All ages and abilities welcome, and no fishing license required. Attendees are encouraged to bring sun protection, water, a chair, and your own tackle is optional. The event takes place Wednesday, January 31 at Goose Island State Park.

On the first Saturday of every month. It runs from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. There will be more than 100 vendors with something for everyone. This market is family and pet-friendly, so bring your loved ones along for a fun day out. The Valentine’s edition of the Heritage Park Market Days will take place Saturday, February 3.

The Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra continues their 2023-2024 season with their Romantic Masterpieces concert.  This concert will take place at the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Performing Arts Center on Saturday, February 3 at 7:30 p.m. The New Year brings more beautiful music. This time with timeless classics of the Romantic era, including one of the most famous piano concertos ever, performed by the brilliant American pianist, Michael Stephen Brown.

Children aged 10 and older can enjoy some game time at the Ben F. McDonald Public Library. The event is set to take place on February 19. Kids will learn a new game or play from video games, card games, chess or board game with new friends. There will also be virtual reality available for kids aged 13 and older. The event starts at 3:00 p.m.

Join us from some good ol’ fashion fun, honoring all of our kids, the participants of this year’s Nueces County Jr. Livestock Show! There’s still time to submit your application! There is no cost for most entries. There will be a silent auction with 100% of all proceeds will be given to the kids! There will be a parade on Saturday, January 13.

The First Friday ArtWalk, presented by H-E-B, is hosted every month in Downtown Corpus Christi from 6 – 10 p.m. The long-standing, cultural event hosts dozens of pop-up vendors, local food trucks, live music, art galleries, and more around the Marina Arts District. This month, the event will be hosted at La Retama Park, Artesian Park, and participating businesses! The next ArtWalk is set for February 2.

Relive one of the most memorable times of your youth, with prom. Adult Prom Night will be a nostalgic night full of fun and elegance. You can bring your significant other, boo, crew, or go solo. The event takes place at Crystal Reception Hall on Saturday, February 10. Champagne and Chandeliers begins at 8:00 p.m. There will be a Prom King and Queen and Best Dressed Couple. Tickets range from $50 to $120 with VIP starting at $750.

KadabraCon will hold a Pop-Up celebration at the Emerald Beach Hotel on Saturday, March 16. The event will include vendors, artists, food trucks and performances. There is also a celebrity guest appearance from Bam Magera. He will be signing and taking pictures with fans. The pop-up is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
