‘Final Fantasy XVI’ For PlayStation 5 Looks Stunning In New ‘Awakening’ Trailer

‘Final Fantasy XVI’ already looks very impressive.

Square Enix

With the news that the PlayStation 5 will be released this November, we have had a slew of additional game announcements. One of these is the rumored Final Fantasy XVI, and it looks really quite impressive.

It’s clear that Final Fantasy XVI is going for a darker and more medieval tone, almost along the lines of Game of Thrones, but it still retains its signature Final Fantasy flair. Chocobos and all.

For those that have been following Square Enix’s hiring, it looks like Final Fantasy XVI has been in development at least since last year. So while this new trailer (shown below) is running on PC hardware, it’s clear that the game has already come a long way in the time since.

The reason I mention this is that Final Fantasy XV had a torturously long development process and it looks like Square Enix wisely wishes to avoid that kind of situation again.

With that in mind, it’s interesting to see the team behind this is none other than producer Naoki Yoshida and director Hiroshi Takai.

Yoshida and Takai managed to turnaround the ailing Final Fantasy XIV and make it into a hit, so I am cautiously optimistic that this team will be able to successfully manage a project such as this.

The only downside to the trailer is that it doesn’t even give a release window and apparently the game will not be present at this year’s Tokyo Game Show either.

So all my fingers and toes are crossed that Final Fantasy XVI will come out hopefully sometime next year, but thus far it’s definitely looking promising.
