FHP report: Pedestrian struck by at least 2 vehicles, killed in Volusia County
Montes #Montes
A pedestrian died after at least two vehicles ran over him in Volusia County early Saturday morning.
Two vehicles traveled south on Interstate 95 near Mile Marker 263 around 5:55 a.m. when they struck a man who, for an unknown reason, was in the southbound lanes, said Lt. Kim Montes, the Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman.
An unidentified vehicle first struck the pedestrian and did not stop. However, it is unknown if the driver knew they had hit a person, according to the report.
The second vehicle, a Sedan-type car driven by a 30-year-old woman from Jacksonville, was unable to avoid the pedestrian who now laid on the southbound lanes, Montes said.
Both drivers called the FHP to report they had possibly run over human debris.
Troopers believe multiple vehicles ran over the pedestrian after the initial collision, the report included.
Authorities have not been able to make an identification due to the condition of the victim.
No names were released as this crash remains under investigation.
