FFXIV: Dawntrail expansion is coming Summer 2024

FFXIV #FFXIV

As hundreds of Final Fantasy XIV fans who won the Fanfest 2023 tickets gathered for the keynote presentation today in Las Vegas, the eager expectation was on the forefront of everyone’s mind. Now that Endwalker is nearly wrapped up, what is the next expansion for FFXIV? As the keynote started and the opening cinematic played, we now have our answer. Next summer, FFXIV: Dawntrail is coming from distant shores.

As explained during the Endwalker keynote, FFXIV‘s expansions have been going through the cycles of the day. A Realm Reborn was sunrise, Heavensward was noon, Stormblood was evening, and Shadowbringers was the night. Endwalker brought the Hydaelyn and Zodiark arc to a close. Now the story of FFXIV rises on an entirely new dawn, as promised, with FFXIV: Dawntrail.

Now that we’ve saved Ishgard, Ala Mhigo and the Far East, the First, and the entire world as well as Thavnair and Garlemald, where could we possibly go next? There were several possibilities, from Meracydia to another shard to the void or even the Southern Seas. But as the cinematic trailer played out came the answer: The New World, now called Tural.

The New World has been alluded to in the Blue Mage questline and clothing and furnishing items. It has long been speculated to be based on the Americas, but from the trailer and map footage shown today this is confirmed to be the case. Tural takes heavy inspiration and theming around South and Central America.

The keynote presentation tells of a more laid-back vacation of a story that will divide the Scions in two. We’re promised new Allied Tribes, a Caster and Melee DPS class, the long-awaited graphics update to the game engine, and even long-awaited quality of life upgrades like two dyes on clothes and an increased furnishing item limit.

Next summer, we see what this so-called vacation expansion has in store after Endwalker‘s earth-shattering revelations.
