Capitol Police Officers Aquilino Gonell and Harry Dunn, both of whom testified in the select committee’s first hearing last year, showed up Thursday to support their fellow officer Caroline Edwards and the families of officers who died after the riot.
Mr. Dunn, who sat next to the girlfriend of the late Officer Brian Sicknick, said after the hearing that he plans to attend every one the committee holds and that he wants to know “everything, everything” about what happened on Jan. 6.
“It’s only right that we seek accountability and justice for you know, some of our officers are no longer with us because of that day,” he said.
Mr. Dunn said it was rough to watch violent footage from Jan. 6, but he was glad Mr. Gonell was there to help him through it. “It was painful. It was difficult. It was very emotional,” Mr. Dunn said.
Mr. Gonell said was grateful to Rep. Liz Cheney (R., Wyo.) for taking a leading role on the committee because getting to the bottom of an attack on the U.S. Capitol should not be a partisan issue.
“It is very important because, like she said, this is not about political parties or your political views, it is about finding out the truth,” he said. “From what the committee laid out today, it seems like there’s a lot more that needs to be done and a lot more players — including some of the people who have downplayed what happened and are not willing to come forward with that information.”
