Fantasy football waiver wire before Week 1: Noah Gray is Travis Kelce insurance

Kelce #Kelce

We’re nearly at the start of the 2023 NFL season, and you’ve already drafted your team.

But there are some waiver wire pickups to be had before the opener on Thursday night.

That’s what we’re here for, a roundup of some of the players you could be targeting ahead of Week 1.

Some of the names below might be taken already, but if not, there are some dudes who could change your fantasy fortunes this season, even this early. Let’s run through them, in no particular order as we get ready for the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs to play on Thursday:

TE Noah Gray, Kansas City Chiefs

We’ll see if Travis Kelce plays on Thursday night, but if you have him on your team, you may want to pick up his direct replacement in case Kelce doesn’t suit up due to a hyperextended knee injury.

TE Dawson Knox, Buffalo Bills

All the preseason hype has been on Dalton Kincaid in Buffalo, but Knox is the veteran who has a connection with Josh Allen. Again, if you need a tight end in a pinch, check him out.

WR Van Jefferson, Los Angeles Rams

With Cooper Kupp hurt, Jefferson is the next wide receiver up and could get a bunch of looks from Matthew Stafford.

RB Zack Moss, Indianapolis Colts

Are we sure Deon Jackson is the RB1 with Jonathan Taylor out? And will Moss be healthy enough for Week 1? Worth finding out.

RB Sean Tucker, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Just a theory, if you have a spot and want to throw a dart: Rachaad White will get a lot of work for the Bucs, but he can’t have ALL of it. So take a flier on him.
