Thursday night marked the end of an era for iconic Aussie soap Neighbours which aired its final episode.

Plenty of people from longtime fans to some who had never watched the show before tuned in to see returning stars including Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Natalie Imbruglia, Holly Valance and Guy Pearce farewell Ramsay Street.

From tears to confusion, reminiscing about old plot lines and much-loved characters – see some of the reactions from fans.

“Never watched an episode of #Neighbours and yet I’m watching the finale trying to understand what the fuck is going on…,” one person wrote on Twitter.

It seemed many people shared the same sentiment as they tuned in for the first, and last time.

“Me watching the #Neighbours finale not knowing who anybody is or what is happening,” another said.

There was also a lot of love.

“I love seeing all these familiar faces from the past. Brings back so much nostalgia,” a fan wrote.

“#Neighbours finale. It had better not turn out to be Karl and Susan’s pet sheep Casserole’s dream,” another wrote.

Even Home and Away star Lynne McGranger chimed in from the UK with “chookas” for the cast and crew.

“A huge shoutout to all the #Neighbours cast and crew. Past and present. Chookas for the future and thanks for the memories. I’m in the UK atm so will miss ( or have missed) the finale, but will be sure to check it out when I return. Biggest love from a fellow #AussieSoap person,” McGranger wrote.

But possibly the biggest surprise was a tweet from Minister for Government Services Bill Shorten, who revealed he’s been a fan for decades.

“Neighbours finale is the ultimate throwback. Every face is as familiar as our own neighbours, but also showing inclusive TV for people with disability. Brilliant. Congrats to everyone who has been part of the Aussie TV institution. What will I watch now! #CelebratingNeighbours,” Shorten tweeted.
