Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has been criticised after footage went viral of him being embarrassed by a 16-year-old during his side’s mid-season friendly with Aston Villa.

Cucurella moved to Stamford Bridge for £60m in the summer, but is yet to hit the same heights that he reached at Brighton.

He looks set to get an extended run in the team following an injury to fellow full-back Ben Chilwell, but Cucurella struggled in his latest outing against Villa, and there was one particularly uncomfortable moment for him when he was knocked off the ball by teenage prospect Kaden Young and was sent flying to the ground in his own penalty box.

The video was captioned ’16 year old Kaden Young bullying £60m Cucurella’, and fans were quick to pick up on the incident, believing that it proves why Chelsea should not have paid such a hefty fee for the 24-year-old.

‘Absolutely ridiculous someone parted with 60million quid for him,’ one fan posted on Twitter.

Another agreed, writing: ‘Who thought it was a good idea to buy him for 60 mil? He’s so s***.’

One supporter joked: ‘Money well spent’ alongside a laughing face emoji.

Cucurella impressed in his maiden campaign with Brighton last term, leading to Chelsea splashing the cash on him.

His drop-off in form has been alarming, though, and one supporter has pointed out that this has become a common theme at Chelsea over the years.

‘What do Chelsea do to these players, man? So many times I’ve seen players look like world beaters and end up a joke at Chelsea. Torres, Shevchenko, Lukaku, Bakayoko, Morata, Mutu – really weird,’ they wrote.

Young has also received praise for making Cucurella look bad, with some fans excited about his future.

‘Good prospect this lad,’ one supporter wrote.

‘He is a strong lad at 16,’ another added.

Young is yet to make his Premier League debut for Villa, but after getting the better of Cucurella, his first chance may not be too far away.
