Extinction Rebellion supporters infiltrated the House of Commons chamber to superglue themselves to the speaker’s chair.
A photograph posted on Twitter by the climate activists shows three campaigners clasping hands in front of the seat.
Two others hold up signs reading “citizens assembly now” and “let the people decide”.
The House of Commons media team said they were “aware of an incident” but were unable to say how the campaigners entered the chamber. The Metropolitan Police said it was responding to “a demonstration by a number protesters at the Palace of Westminster”.
Another two protesters were seen with locks around their necks on the front gates of the Houses of Parliament.
