Explosions heard at Old Bailey in London

The Old Bailey was evacuated this morning after a series of explosions at part of the court complex.

Power was cut and the building was evacuated as smoke poured from the ground floor close to the judge’s entrance shortly before 11am.

Five fire engines were called to the court complex in central London as security staff guided judges, barristers, jurors and members of the public out of the building.

A witness described a series of explosions lasting about ten minutes before the smoke appeared from vents. It is believed that part of the building contains electrical equipment.
