Expert issues ‘massive’ Jota claim after Sky’s Celtic reveal
Jota #Jota
Jota’s imminent return from injury is “wonderful” news for Celtic as they look to pull away from Rangers at the top of the Premiership.
That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after an update on the 23-year-old’s fitness.
As reported by Sky Sports (10 October), Jota has picked up a muscle injury that has caused him to miss his side’s last two games.
Though, as quoted by the Daily Record (15 October), Ange Postecoglou expects the winger to return to training at some point next week.
The summer signing has been in sensational form for the Hoops this term, registering five goals and five assists in 12 total outings.
“Jota has really shown his quality in those European games,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.
“It’s those moments against Leipzig and Shakhtar. You could see it from the first game he played, you thought he was all about stepovers but he has so much more to his game.
“He has really established himself as a big player under Postecoglou and not having him there is a massive thing for Celtic.
“The confidence of just having a player of his quality on the pitch, it’s a wonderful thing. He has been very, very consistent at a really high level.
“If he’s back in a few weeks then that’s wonderful for Celtic, any longer than that and you start to grow concerned.
“For Celtic and their chances of pulling away from Rangers, Jota’s recovery is something to keep an eye on.”
Jota made 40 appearances for the Hoops across all competitions last season.
In those outings, he scored 13 goals and provided 14 assists.
