Exclusive: Rangers tipped to bring 27-yr-old striker to Ibrox on loan-to-buy after big update

Roofe #Roofe

Noel Whelan believes Rangers have the finances to prise Kemar Roofe away from Anderlecht this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds and Coventry striker claimed the Glasgow giants could make a loan-to-buy offer for the 27-year-old.

Rangers have not given up in their pursuit on the former Leeds striker, according to a report in Voetbal 24.

Manager Steve Gerrard is almost certain to ramp up his attempts to bring in a new striker, having seen Jermain Defoe pick up a hamstring injury on Wednesday night.

And Whelan believes Roofe will be looking for a new challenge, after a frustrating season in Belguim.

He told Football Insider: “He’s very quick, very dynamic in and around the box, he can hold the ball up and he knows where the goal is.

“They would get him at a decent price and they’ll have the finances.

“Obviously they’ll have a certain amount of money they can spend, they can be outpriced by it but Anderlecht probably won’t get what they paid for Kemar.

“It hasn’t worked out for him and I think it could be time he does get a challenge and It could be a loan to buy situation that works for both clubs.”

Roofe fired seven goals and three assists in 16 games for Anderlecht last season, whilst the forward was superb in the 2018-19 campaign, smashing 15 goals and two assists for Leeds United.

The Glasgow giants have already made four additions to their squad as they seek to prevent Celtic from winning a historic tenth consecutive Scottish league title.
