Ex-Man Utd ace who starred alongside Wayne Rooney and played in Champions League makes shock transfer to Scottish club

HE COUNTS Wayne Rooney as a former team-mate – as well as Rangers flop Mateusz Zukowski.
And Ross County have swept in for a surprise January signing and drafted in one of Louis van Gaal’s favourites at Manchester United.

The legendary Dutch boss gave Cameron Borthwick-Jackson his debut at Old Trafford – and a dozen more appearances with the Red Devils as a raw 18-year-old.
But after impressing during United’s injury crisis the left-back was kept in and around the first team – even appearing in the Champions League group stages against Wolfsburg – before falling out of the first-team picture the following season.
Now aged 26, he has pitched up in Dingwall – in line for an appearance against Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup this weekend – via various clubs around the north of England and a stint beside a Rangers flop.
But it is Rooney’s name which stands out among the array of stars the once hotly-tipped wide man has teamed with.
He most recently spent six months in Poland at Slask Wroclaw after being freed by Burton Albion.
But he has only made two appearances for a total of 25 match minutes.
He still had time to lay on a goal though – but most of his Polish experience has been on the bench for the Ekstraklasa leaders.
There he’s sat alongside ex-Rangers flop Mateusz Zukowski who has seen a similar struggle – and even had home fans turn on him and his celebrity singer Wag.
But Derek Adams has spotted Borthwick-Jackson’s stagnating career and given him the chance to re-ignite it as a Staggie.
He will replace Ben Purrington who left for Exeter and he could be in in the mix for a match against Partick Thistle on Saturday – if it goes ahead.
The move has been welcomed by United fans keeping a close eye on their former hot prospect’s fortunes.
One said: “Under LVG at United, this kid looked like he had a real chance of being a top player.”

Another joked: “If he thought Poland was cold wait till he plays in Dingwall on a freezing cold night in January.”
Borthwick-Jackson is County’s fourth signing of the month following Derek Adams’ arrival to replace Malky Mackay.
The former Morecambe boss has also drafted in Brandon Khela, Eli King, George Wickens during this transfer window.
