KIERAN TIERNEY doesn’t score many goals.
But when he does, they are rarely tap-ins.

During the 2020/21 season he scored two excellent strikes for Arsenal against West Brom and Benfica, both completely different in style.
The goal against West Brom came in the Premier League and was a terrific solo effort as he picked the ball up 30 yards on the left side, beat his man not once but twice, before cutting inside and firing the ball into the far corner with his weaker right foot.
During an epic five-goal clash against Benfica, Tierney scored the crucial second strike as Arsenal won 3-2 in their Europa League round of 32 tie.
Going back to his days at Celtic the left-back once smashed the ball into the net from 40-yards against Kilmarnock.
His latest goal for the Gunners was another fine strike.
The Scotland defender popped up early in the first half during Arsenal’s Europa League game against FC Zurich to score a stunning half-volley.
In the 17th minute the left-back arrived on the edge of the penalty area in perfect timing and the ball sat up nicely for him after Fabio Vieira’s shot was deflected into his path.
He struck it sweetly on the bounce and the ball rocketed into the net, leaving Zurich goalkeeper Yanick Brecher with no chance.
It’s Tierney’s fifth goal in total for Arsenal in 105 appearances across all competitions and the 13th in his career as a whole.
Punters were heaping praise on the Scot on Twitter after the goal – but a sizeable number of fans all had the same bizarre complaint.
Many of the respondents felt the goal was NOT a half-volley.
A half-volley is defined is kick the ball just after it hits the ground, ie after the first bounce.
But some fans weren’t having it.
On a video of the goal posted on Twitter by BT Sport, a majority of the comments called out the broadcaster for “not knowing what half-volley is” and others argued over what does constitute a half-volley.
Elsewhere, former Celtic star Virgil van Dijk has opened up ion the time he told Hoops scouts to sign Andy Robertson – but they refused.
