Everton player ratings as Tom Davies excellent but two poor in Tottenham Hotspur win

Tom Davies #TomDavies

Robin Olsen – 7

Two brilliant saves from the Sweden international stopped Spurs taking a 3-0 lead into the half time interval. There was little he could really do about the goals the visitors did score as the defending around him constantly let the side down.

Ben Godfrey – 6

A little more sloppy in possession than we’re used to seeing from the summer signing, but he wasn’t the only one of his teammates who suffered from that. In all, it wasn’t a great night for Everton’s defenders.

Yerry Mina – 5

Was too sloppy in possession throughout the game and allowed Lamela in to score too easily before the end of the first half. Usually dominant from set pieces in both boxes, he couldn’t have anywhere near the same effect in this one.

Michael Keane – 5

Similarly struggled with the Spurs attack constantly throughout the game, and didn’t cover himself in glory with the opening goal from a set piece. His distribution from the back was also unfortunately lacking.

Lucas Digne – 6

Was strong enough defensively and contributed going forward as ever with four key passes throughout the game. However, he might be a little disappointed for his part in the third goal Spurs managed to score.

Tom Davies – 8

Everton’s best player even when the side had started the game poorly. He was constantly showing for the ball, displayed some great passing ability again and was right up for a battle in midfield from the first whistle. Another excellent and energetic midfield display.

Abdoulaye Doucoure – 8

The midfielder really has got some engine on him. Doucoure was almost everywhere on the pitch for Everton this evening even throughout extra time, in a performance which must have drained every ounce of energy he had.

Alex Iwobi – 5

Don’t miss

Wasn’t able to create enough chances for his side throughout his time on the pitch in the absence of James Rodriguez, and was the man taken off just after Everton went 4-3 up in the second half.

Gylfi Sigurdsson – 7

Was at fault for two of the goals that Spurs scored as Everton struggled to deal with set pieces, but proved himself influential at the other end of the pitch. Three assists and a goal from the penalty spot is some return from the attacking midfielder.

Richarlison – 7

You can tell that goal in the first half gave him a lot of confidence, and he took that into hammering a fantastic second strike of the evening beyond Hugo Lloris later in the night. Hopefully this can now be a spark for him to improve.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 7

He hit the post earlier in the first half but took his next opportunity with aplomb. He’s in fantastic goalscoring form again and Everton will hope his injury is not a serious one.
