Jordan Pickford – 8

Nothing he could do about the effort deflected beyond him to open the scoring, but his save to deny Alonso later in the half was fantastic. He was caught out giving the penalty away, but his stops to keep Chelsea at bay throughout were often brilliant. Another quality display all round.

Mason Holgate – 5

Didn’t cover himself in glory for Kai Havertz’s opening goal, although there were a number of defensive errors from multiple players there. After picking up an early booking it became difficult for Holgate, although he improved in the second half.

Michael Keane – 6

Found himself fairly comfortable during large stages of the match with the play often being played in front of him, with a few key interceptions and clearances stifling the Chelsea attack on occasion.

Ben Godfrey – 6

Considering the circumstances this was another solid performance, restricting Timo Werner in particular fairly well throughout. His own goal can be chalked down to bad luck, but aside from that he didn’t put a foot wrong often.

Lucas Digne – 6

Was fairly dangerous when breaking down the left flank, but that was all too rare for Everton to really take advantage. Reece James caused issues down that side defensively but there were a few important tackles from the France international.

Allan – 6

Was kept very busy once again in his position sitting in front of the back four and as ever tried his utmost to disrupt the Chelsea attack wherever possible. He found himself on the ball a little more in the second period and was calm as ever.

Andre Gomes – 5

The midfielder perhaps struggled a little more than others with the man-marking system Everton are seemingly employed in the first half, but matters seemed to improve briefly in the second period before he was withdrawn from the action.

Alex Iwobi – 5

Was marking Marcos Alonso for the majority of his time on the pitch, but was left two-on-one in the decisive moment as the defender set up the opening goal. Going forward, Iwobi just couldn’t effectively get himself into the game.

Gylfi Sigurdsson – 6

Put in a lot of effort during his minutes in closing down Chelsea’s defenders and trying to starve Jorginho of service. Everton didn’t really get the ball to the Iceland international often enough in the areas they needed him in.

Richarlison – 6

Similarly to Sigurdsson his effort in defence was top quality, but it didn’t quite come together in an attacking sense on the rare occasions he had possession. There was one effort in the second period, however, he might feel he could have done better with.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 6

As combative as ever in leading the line, winning a lot of headers and free kicks for his side, but he was never given the opportunity he would have wanted inside the box after being starved of service.

SUBS

Tom Davies – 6

Almost had an instant impact in midfield as he was involved in the move to set up Richarlison’s chance.

Josh King – 6

A lively display from the bench even after being given the thankless task of being introduced with the score at 2-0.

Bernard – 5

Not introduced at a great time, but couldn’t provide much to the attack during his minutes on the pitch.
