Even When Naked, a Watch is a Must-Have Accessory At the Oscars — Just Ask John Cena

Oscars #Oscars

Watch spotting at the Oscars is always catnip for timepiece lovers, as the biggest stars walk the red carpet wearing a parade of hyped horological mechanisms by the likes of Omega, Vacheron Constantin, Jacob & Co., IWC, Cartier and Rolex (typically their own as that brand doesn’t gift or lend its pieces).

Falling into that latter category at Oscars 2024 was John Cena, who appeared nearly naked onstage during the telecast to announce the award for best costume design.

In addition to his modesty garment and a pair of Birkenstocks, the only other item the actor sported was his own Rolex Explorer II watch, which featured a white dial and an arrow-shaped 24-hour hand, as spotted by Watch Pro. The watch, which can display two time zones simultaneously, retails for $9,650.

Apparently, even when you’re naked at the Academy Awards, you don’t want to be without a trusty timepiece.

Read on to see more timepieces worn by top talent at the 96th Academy Awards, sported on the wrists of everyone from Oscar winners Robert Downey Jr. and Da’Vine Joy Randolph to Roger Federer and Simu Liu.

Bradley Cooper and Cillian Murphy Rock Louis Vuitton and Omega

Maestro best actor nominee Bradley Cooper, who is an ambassador for Louis Vuitton’s Tambour watch, was dressed head-to-toe by the French luxury house. To go with his custom black double-breasted jacket (which featured turquoise buttons) and matching flared pants, Cooper wore Louis Vuitton’s rose-gold 40mm Tambour self-winding watch with integrated bracelet, which retails for $52,000.

Also at the Oscars, Cillian Murphy — the night’s best actor winner for Oppenheimer — wore a custom Atelier Versace suit, a custom J. Robert Oppenheimer-inspired brooch by Sauvereign, and a watch by Omega with a vintage look that felt in keeping with the period in which the film is set. Murphy’s handsome 41mm stainless steel Omega De Villa Prestige is highlighted by a vertically patterned pine green dial in a sun-brushed finish. (Currently unavailable online, it retails for $5,100.)

Ryan Gosling Goes for Pink Diamonds in TAG Heuer

To go with his custom Gucci black suit for the Oscars red carpet — which featured metallic detailing — Ryan Gosling accessorized with a highly special TAG Heuer watch that features pink diamonds (on the dial and on the crown).

The best supporting actor nominee for Barbie — who brought electrifying Kenergy to his performance of “I’m Just Ken” during the Oscars telecast — wore TAG Heuer’s recently released Carrera Plasma Diamant d’Avant Garde timepiece featuring indexes set with white baguette-cut lab-grown diamonds. A TAG Heuer ambassador, Gosling next stars in The Fall Guy, due out May 3; expect to see him wearing TAG Heuer timepieces in this latest film, as he’s previously worn the brand’s watches in The Gray Man and Barbie (albeit vintage pieces).

Roger Federer Wears a Reverse Panda Daytona Le Mans

The tennis legend, who attended the Oscars for the second time, wore his own Rolex, a Daytona Le Mans in white gold. The 40mm watch, Ref. 126529LN, was released in 2023 by Rolex to mark the 100th anniversary of the famed 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Retailing for $51,400, it features a Cerachrom bezel and a reverse panda dial. (Mark Wahlberg also owns Rolex’s new Daytona Le Mans, according to Robb Report.)
