Even Nintendo Is Starting To Charge $70 For Games Now, But There’s A Way To Save On ‘Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom’

The base version of The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom will cost $70.

Nintendo dropped a killer trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to close out its latest Direct. One thing the company didn’t mention during the stream was the price.

However, Nintendo later said in a press release that the sequel to Breath of the Wild will cost $70, confirming earlier leaks. It’s the first time the company has gone to that price point for the base version of a first-party Switch game.

Of course, it’s not the only major platform holder to make that jump. Sony has charged $70 for first-party PS5 games from the outset and, going forward, Microsoft will ask fans to pay that amount for major games it’s making primarily for Xbox Series X/S (making Game Pass even more of a good deal).

This pricing could be the new normal for Nintendo, especially as it looks toward the future and the Switch’s successor.

There is another option for now, though: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is Nintendo Switch Game Voucher-eligible.

A voucher costs $100 and it allows users to claim two games from a catalog. So, you could use one to snap up Tears of the Kingdom and get, say, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey or even something as recent as Fire Emblem Engage for the equivalent of $30. One caveat: you need a Switch Online subscription to buy a voucher.
