Evani: ‘Chiesa will get even stronger’

Italy assistant manager Alberico Evani explains why Federico Chiesa played such an important role at UEFA EURO 2020. ‘He will get even stronger over time.’

The Juventus forward made his way from super-sub to automatic first choice in the Azzurri XI on the way to lifting the trophy at Wembley Stadium.

He scored two goals in the Round of 16 against Austria and the semi-final with Spain.

“Chiesa will get even stronger over time,” Evani told Tuttomercatoweb.

“He has this deadly change of pace and can change the game like few others in Europe. When he steps up a gear and accelerates, you just cannot keep up with him.

“He also shoots well with both feet and maintains that technique even when running at speed.”

Chiesa scored 15 goals and provided 11 assists in 46 competitive games last season, including three matches he played for Fiorentina before the transfer to Juve in October 2020.

Evani also became a household face during the Euros, if not a name, as his image went viral on Twitter as he stood on the touchline showing Italy players the tactics in a large folder.
